Memories

Do you spend more energy deadening the pain of lost romance than you do rekindling it? Do you long for the spark that once ignited the greatest romance of all time...yours? What do you suppose ever happened to that?

I suspect
your time spent learning how to cook and to plan for the
future and to raise children was more than the time spent
keeping that love alive.
your telling him how handsome he was came second to
reminding him to pick up milk on the way home.
your buying her that very expensive perfume she just loves
had to be postponed to make a car payment.

And what are the memories of the past few years? Probably all very solid and substantial, like:
finding the right high school for Billy,
being elected president of the PTA,
getting that much deserved promotion.

But what about those earlier memories, like:
pushing him into a giant snow mound and then laughing so hard
you fell in yourself?
listening to music together...and suddenly just breaking
into dance ...like in the King and I?
writing silly notes to each other, then hiding them
in discoverable places?

You may say some of that is immature...and you may be right. But what have you replaced it with? What are you doing now that is just for you?
