I Am

I am Man. I am Woman. I am Child.

I have faces, all different: some smile, some are rough,
some beautiful, handsome, plain.
I have ways: some bold, some confident, some nervous, unsure.
I am sincere, hypocritical, warm, cold, sensitive, cruel.
I am, in all of this, simply Human.

Am I good, oh Lord, when I suffer for the sake of another?
Am I bad, oh Lord, when I deny someone to make myself happy?

And this business, Love, what is it?
Where is it found? How is it given? Received?

Where are the answers?
Incense and candles, sacred hymns and sacrifice, scripture and sacraments?
Unpaid bills and shattered dreams, broken bodies and angry words, crying children
and pain-filled moments?

The magic show is over. Speak to me now of Love.
